Good result for the u23s in the Premier League Cup. Goals from Jamie Veale (pen) and James Waite.

Some unfamilair names on the twitter feed (to me anyway). Elan Assiana? Jack Bodenham? However no full team details? Anyone know the full line up?

Also notice Theo Wharton started. I thought he was on trial somewhere last month (Coventry?) but seems he hasn't moved on yet.

Jack Bodenham is a young lad from Cwmbran, no more than 16 or 17 so a massive step up in terms of age.

Never heard of Elan Assiana although a quick google search states that he is an 18 year old Charlton player, signed for them as a 16 year old from Man City.

Burnley were a much bigger side physically and could well have been more than one up at half time with tactics based around long balls and set pieces. However, a young City side played some lovely football second half and after a Veale penalty, Waite got the winner after a lovely through ball from Weymans.
Physically, it looked like men against boys but City were the better footballing side.

I watched the first half and if I'm honest i could only see Burnley winning. I had to leave half time which is a shame as it seems we grew into the game.

I thought Weymans was decent apart from a sloppy pass that almost cost a goal.
Waite was really good on the ball but I'd like to see him get involved more.
Coxe was a good outlet on the right too.
I like the lad Veale though, i think he's got something about him.

Here's a match report which, basically, says what you have just done, but takes an awful lot longer to do it .

Thanks, couldn't make it today but that sounds very encouraging. Won't be long now and your first team reports will read like that.

Not sure that's going to happen while Mr Warnock is here! To be fair to him, the consequences of defeat/failure are so much greater at first team level than they are in the sides where giving a goal away like the one the Under 23s nearly did yesterday doesn't really count for much in the grand scheme of things.

However, even if the first team continues to play as they are now, it has to help if many of the team are comfortable on the ball. I don't know if it's just me, but for some time now it's seemed to me that are opponents are generally more skillful than we are. Yesterday though, we took on a Premier League team's Under 23 side and it was clear that we had a lot more natural ability than they did - if we can continue along those lines, then we will benefit however the first team decide to play.
