    Interesting times in UKIP...

I think this article has banks and Farage to a tee.
They are not anti establishment in the slightest.

Interesting times at the Spectator for the less-than-impartial Hugo Rifkind:

Hugo Rifkind doesn't need to be impartial in this kind of opinion piece. No more than you would expect a littlejohn or a clarkson to be.

As an interesting aside though, I think ukips great success over the last few years has been in part being able to seemingly attract people from opposite sides of the political spectrum, Europe aside (where they have been incredibly single minded and steadfast) they have jumped all over the shop with their policies. At one time favouring flat tax and privatisation of the NHS, whilst at the same time mentioning completely opposite policies.

However you can only pull off this kind of illusion for so long, and now it seems they are at a crossroads whether they target Tory or labour votes.

I agree, although political parties are perpetually finding themselves at crossroads. Most UKIP members and politicians are ex-Tory voters, whereas a sizeable proportion of UKIP voters are ex-Labour voters. UKIP have done as much to destroy Labour's core support as have the calamitous leaderships of Blair, Brown, Miliband and Corbyn.

Saying that, I like Corbyn and think it is great that the UK has a Labour Party returning to socialist principles. If I lived in England I would probably vote Labour with Jezza at the helm, if I liked my local candidate.

In the last Welsh election I voted Green in my constituency and UKIP for the list, hoping that UKIP would beat the bullying local Plaid candidate for the extra list seat. It didn't happen but hopefully the bully will be turfed out of Plaid soon and I can go back to voting for the party of which I am a member.

Incredible but true, The two outlooks are supposedly so diametrically opposed.
Seems to be increasingly prevalent in communities with long history of Labour voting, but, all along, were never actively Socialist in their viewpoint, nor actions - only anti Tory.
Don't have to travel very far to get a whiff of that.

Isn't it time for proportional representation and a more grassroots type of democracy? I think the centralised 2-party system has run it's course.

Yes, of course it is, we should have at least one for AV when that was offered, but too many people were taken in by the bullshit.

BS that was spread by both sides of the centralised 2-party system

It's a well written article and spot on in my view, particularly the desperation of the UKIP grandeur wanting to be part of the elite, you see it in football, with chairman and owners buying a seat at the table of celebrity and establishment.
