People didn't have a chance to mouth off as much as they do nowadays. If the Internet existed when Alan Durban was manager I suspect we would have expressed similar sentiment.
My favourite one was when Charlie stopped the boy from going to see some puppies with the paedo.
I remember one of the Charlie PSA's where the boy was outside his house and some kids came over and asked the boy if he wanted to go off somewhere (fishing, I think?) with them, the boy told them he'd have to ask his Mum so he went indoors but she was on the phone for ages, so he waited to ask her and when she got off the phone they went back outside and the kids were gone.
Presumably the message was that the boy did the right thing by asking his Mum, but for years I thought that surely if he hasn't stood around like a mug waiting for approval, he could have gone off for a fun day out with his friends.

I think our fans would be just as intolerant as the Wurzels.
Things got quite nasty post mackay but I think how they are talking about him has gone beyond anything I have seen us do.
Some fans booed during Solksjaer's, trollope & slades reigns but some Bristolians talk as if they want physical harm against him.
He does have a very smug look about him.
The sort of face you'd never get tired of punching.
Maybe we need to say 'Good Charlie' for you and 'Bad Charlie' for him - or just stick with 'Jursset' for the odious little creep.
