Wales is not an independent state though, is it? Politically, it is just a region of the UK and probably doesn't have any more autonomy that than parts of Spain or Germany. It could be argued that Wales is only a country in sporting terms (Olympics excepted).

The clue to my answer is that you're comparing a part of England with a different country. You're happy with the idea that England rules the roost and if other countries don't like it, they can fck themselves. I don't agree with that.
