    I never realised that Martin McGuinness was responsible for the creation of a sectarian 6 county statelet based on systematic discrimination, or that he instructed the RUC to violently attack peaceful civil rights marches that wanted reform?

    The subsequent escalation and tit-for-tat violence - sometimes driven by community fear and political aspiration, sometimes by criminal gangs exploiting the situation to enrich themselves - cannot be explained or understood by any one-liner on a football messageboard. What is clear to me (partly from personal experience) is that Sinn Fein started to evolve from the time of the hunger strikes into an organisation that looked to Palestine and South Africa and central America to find a route to a political resolution of the conflict. It understood as well as the British government that there was no 'military solution' through terrorist violence or state repression. I believe from all I have seen and heard and read that McGuinness and Adams were the prime movers in that process - and found others willing to break from the past in Dublin, London (both parties) and the unionist community - including a few of the loyalist terrorist leaders.

    If anyone thinks the Northern Irish peace process was just about undoing 'the troubles' they seriously misunderstand the state and society that spawned them.

    It's hard to tell on here sometimes.

    For future reference you need to use the following:

    A x B - (C+D) = E

    Where:

    A = daily posts
    B = weekly contributions
    C = utter bollocks
    D = piss taking
    E = sensible posts

    As a rough guide it's about 1 post in every 20.

    Hope this helps.

    That's interesting Mr Goslow sir that you choose to insult me by name calling over a matter of mere semantics, when you know only too well the term "British Army" could quite equally mean British Armed Forces (as was it's intention). No need for insults old chap,just because I am telling the truth about the British ARMED FORCES (who also include the RAF and The RN ) and their bomb dropping/planting, missile launching on whatever brown skinned oil rich country that the good ol' USA tell them to. Insults very rarely win an argument, and for somebody with a picture of Trump as your avatar and an anti socialist rant verging on Neo fascism be careful who you call THICK.

    No Mr Lecter you are MORE STUPID,because the British ARMY owned Apache, Lynx and Gazelle helicopters are dropping bombs/missiles all over Syria in fact the hellfire missiles and CRV-7 rockets used regularly by the BRITISH ARMY on brown skinned peoples' tents/hovels/caves in arab lands, can do a considerable amount of damage.

    A large number of the coalition in syria is made up of those brown arabs we apparently hate.

    I don't think it has much to do with them being brown tbh.

    At the time of the Good Friday Agreement the IRA was so riddled with paranoia that people were afraid to breath. British Intelligence has got so far inside the IRA that it was on its knees. These 'heros' were snitching each other up left right and centre but if course this never got reported.
    McGuiness knew the IRA was on its arse and that Blair wanted to be famous so he grabbed the opportunity while he could.
    He was a murdering shithouse. Rot In Piss

    Looking at terrorism as a non violent human being: three or four Westeners die in London because another Westerner, who might have been a Muslim, attacked them with much ultra violence. Everybody goes mental. On the same day, at least 33 civilians, most of them little children, were killed in Syria, after the US military attacked a school with much ultra violence, yet the one with the kitchen knife is the "terrorist" causing all the terror.
    The kids in the school in Raqqah- what of them? were they just victims of good honest Americans trying to liberate them in the name of freedom (and get to the oil conveniently lying in the ground underneath the school that they just bombed)??
    OR a terrorist attack?
    There are certainly going to be a good few more terrorists being born from that one bombing alone. And it goes round and round...

    Spot on. Precious little coverage of this US led attack. As you say it will certainly create more terrorists. So the cycle continues

    Sinn fein didn't evolve in the 70/80s iy has been in existence for over a century. The period of the troubles from the 1960s to today was fueled in no small way by the murderous violence planned approved and condoned by mcguinness.
    He was a murderer and a mobster and, I believe, still covertly so to the day he died.
    I don't know what your personal experience is, but if you'd seen the back streets of the Shankill and the Falls in 1971 you may have a different view of things.
