Second that. Good innings but RIP.
Not sure I agree its the best but such arguments are trivial at this time.

In my view an excellent author deserving of all the accolades he received. I enjoyed all his Morse books and the TV series as well.
RIP
Yes. RIP Colin Dexter you brought pleasure and entertainment to millions.
God bless him. That invariably tedious show brought a couple of hours relief to millions of insomniacs all over the country but waking up after the credits was always unsatisfactory. They should have had eight hour episodes.
Never saw one episode of Morse fully, tried it though a few times, and I share your opinion.
It could be that John Thaw didn't fit the role and had become typecast as the heavy drinking and smoking, womanising, non-PC copper Jack Regan.
"Shut it!!"
"We're the Sweeney son and we 'avn't 'ad any dinner!!"
Classic show in its day the Sweeney.
I suppose fair play to Colin Dexter, millions can't all be wrong. Then again I believe millions tuned into watch Last of the summer wine!
Na, this was what we were brought up with,
