80's - Gareth Davies (the first one). Davies belongs to a select group of I make to be 11 pairs of players with the same first and last
names to play for City.
1970s. The goalkeeper must be Gary Pierce and the player facing the camera looks a bit like Frank Munroe.
Is Derek Jefferson there ? I'm sure he was a recent quiz answer.
Yes, it is Jefferson in the number five shirt, David is right about Gary Pierce (it is Carlisle that Wolves are playing - I thought it was Bob Hatton jumping for the ball first of all, but he'd left for Birmingham when the photo was taken) and it is Gareth Davies for the 1980s question.
I'm hopeless at the older stuff, but I get to learn things from these.
Pretty sure the 90's player is George Ndah.
If not it's Dean Sturridge although I think he was around a bit later.
The 00s are Hennessey, Breen, Foley, Gibson, Gray, Olofinjana, Eastwood, Potter, Kyle, Elliott, Bothroyd, Keogh and Edwards.
The 10s is Jon Flatt, who is at Barrow.
Just noticed that no one got the fifth Wolves player in the 70s photograph - the answer is on the blog now if you want to look it up, but if you fancy trying to get it yourself, I can tell you that he is someone who went on to play for England and I'd forgotten that he had played for Wolves.
I'd forgotten his Wolves link as well. That's a bit of a coincidence because the other day I was just thinking about someone I used to know in the 1970s and one of the things I remember about this man is that he told me something about this player's private life. It wasn't anything particularly unusual or scandalous but I have often wondered how he found out about it and why he bothered telling me. I suppose you could be equally puzzled about why I am bothering to tell you. Who knows? Why do we do or say anything?
