Thread: One of the Best Ever Radio One DJ's passes away...

One of the Best Ever Radio One DJ's passes away...

...mind you there hasn't been much competition since Radio One first went on air, way back in 1967

    R.I.P Brian Matthews

One of only a handful of decent DJ's that has ever worked as presenter on Radio One. Someone who knew about his chosen musical subject (the 60s) and imparted his knowledge in an articulate, knowledgeable, and thoroughly enjoyable way.

Who could forget Saturday Club on the Light Programme early sixties.

Seems he is still alive! Wish the usually accurate BBC news could get it right.

Nevertheless, it will be a sad day when he passes.

When you think of all the dross half-wits that have presented on BBC1, the powers that be should take a slice of our license fee to build a statue of the man outside Broadcasting House (that's if they still Broadcast from Broadcasting house?)

Saturday Club ! What a great programme.

I used to lie in bed listening on a Saturday morning , get up when it finished and
walk down to the centre of Tredegar to get the Charlie Hills coach to Ninian Park.

Hop off the coach and go in The Boar's Head ( Peter Rodrigues dad the landlord )
for a couple of under age pints.

    Happy days.

    RIP Brian.

Fake news site this, Peter Rodrigues Dad did not have The Boar's Head, it was Johnny Rodrigues, the father of Brian, Maria & Philip.

Where exactly was the Boar's Head on Leckwith Road? Was it on the corner of Phillip St, set back a little & opposite Major Rd?
