Are we allowed to ask "Is Barkley thick - or does he just look thick" ?

Even before the latest Sun Storm, I had begun to wonder why he hadn't kicked on from a promising start to his career and after studying his facial expression for a few games recently was seriously wondering if he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box.

He is as thick as two short planks, but in football I think that is an advantage. I've noticed that many of the most skillful players have been thick – e.g. Beckham and Gascoigne. When these dim footballers are on the pitch they can concentrate more on the game than others because there's not much else going on in their brains. This afternoon for example a clever player will be worrying about Trump blowing up the world or about whether porn causes impotence, but the thick ones will have no distracting thoughts.

Until they start playing in international tournaments.
