    I was there for the game Pat Murphy describes here;-

    "His first game I remember, against Norwich he had a shocker - losing 3-2. The next nine years he was a tremendous centre-back alongside Gareth Southgate.".

    I felt sorry for him that day and was pleased to see how much his career prospered after that uncomfortable start. So sad, and very surprising, that such a physically strong player can be cut down so young.

    Gone at 44. No age at all.

    Just goes to show you never know what's around the corner in this life. All the more reason to enjoy it while you can.
