I thought that the following lyrics by Cardiff band Lone Star were incredibly fanciful in the mid-seventies. I was wrong, of course. And all set to a punchy, rock rhythm.

THE BELLS OF BERLIN
I can hear the bells ringing and echoing over Berlin
I can feel the emotion and sadness that now is within
The city stands so tall but it's imprisoned behind a wall
(One day it must fall)

Over and over I ask myself, is this a dream?
I can hardly imagine the sadness the city has seen
There will come a day, when its chains will fall away

I can feel sadness, I can feel joy, between the two I'm torn
Day by day now I can hear people sing
Life must go on, till the city's reborn again

The bells are ringing, are calling to you
You have been watching the world go by
Search for an answer, there's one to be found
Though it'll seem like it's miles away, it's here on the ground.
