Lotty and raefel decide to enter a prize draw.
They agree to share any money they win in the ratio of 2;3 respectively.
After winning a total of £2000. They think again and decide that Lotty's share should be increased by 30%.
1 Raefel thinks that his share will be reduced by 30%.
Without any calculation explain why raefel thinking is incorrect.
a) Raefels share will reduce by the same £££ as Lottys share increases
b) 30% of Lottys share is a different amount from 30% of Raefels
c) so it can't be true.
2. Calculate the amount of money Lotty wins after the decision is made to increase her share.
We got, 2000 divide by 5 = 400
Lotty 2x400 =800
10% = 80
30% =240
Lotty 800 + 240=1040
Agreed
3 find the ratio that is now used to share the money between Lotty and raefel.
Express your answer in its simplest form.
Lotty £1040
Raefel £960
Lotty's winnings raefel winnings = ?
That's right, 1040:940 is the ratio, but that's not the simplest form. Highest common denominator is 80, dividing throughout by 80 gives ratio of 13:12
