NHS For Sale - The Naylor Report

Wow, I've never heard about this before. It looks like the NHS is going to be sold off if this Naylor Report is implemented.

Just leave the politics out of it, I'm tired of our NHS being used as a political football. I want to know how the Naylor Report will result in the sell-off of the NHS and what mechanisms are involved, etc.

Because if they privatise it, it'll be about money, so they'll shut down local A&Es and strip everything back to the bare bones.

Bit late to start focusing on this.

I've had a quick read and if used sensibly it could be a good thing, but (and it's a big but) everything is in place for it to turn into a total sell-off. The red flags are the government offering 2-1 on sale prices, a block on capital funding if trusts don't participate, and the 5 year limit (the length of a parliamentary term). There may be more, but those are the ones that jumped out at me.

As a Dad you should be interested in the NHS This Naylor Report is only 2 months old, but it seems to be a very significant document. I'm hoping someone with a NHS background will be able to contribute something to this thread.

Only yesterday i took my 9yr old to Hospital to see a pediatric oral specialist, as my daughter has a hole in a back tooth ( it turns out she must have had a fever when very young and that causes tooth enamel on teeth to be weak as they are " breaking through ", it turns out it is only this one tooth right at the back, which isnt a major issue as the gap will fill in with her teeth moving over

Our dentist wanted the hospital to take it out under general Anesthetic, he thinks pulling out the very rear one without her being out would be traumatic for her, thus we went to the hospital to see the consultant for the first time yesterday

we discussed it and when i asked the wait time, she said " 12 months plus ", i laughed and said " really " , her reply was " yes, infact by the time we get to do it it could well be closer to 18 months, Mr Blue, the wheels have fallen off "

12 - 18 months to have a tooth out shocking

I have a feeling about it, they are running the NHS down and into the ground so when they do announce its going to be sold of / privatised, we wont really care as we will say " well it was crap anyway " it might not be in my generation, but i guess my daughters

Selling something for what it is worth doesn't count as an efficiency saving.

Correct me if I'm wrong but selling off surplus NHS land has been the policy of both political Parties and the Right to Buy Council houses (though started by the Tories) also carried on under Labour. As for Academies the Labour Government under Tony Blair established academies through the Learning and Skills Act 2000, which amended the section of the Education Act 1996 relating to City Technology Colleges. They were first announced in a speech by David Blunkett, then Secretary of State for Education and Skills, in 2000. (Source Wikipedia)

New labour were just friendly Tories werent they?

I will give you right to buy but I don't think new labour offered bribes to schools to turn into academies or bribes to make hospitals sell land.
