Thread: Adel Taarabt

    Adel Taarabt

Bombed out of Genoa now as well. Will probably go to China or the gulf according to the Portuguese media.
What a waste of a talent.

We've has a few over the years who wasted their talent, Ravel Morrison, Jason Koumas and Robin Friday spring to mind. All troubled characters.

What about that lad from Llanrumney (QPR as well), can't even remember his name, but apparently he was going to be the next "BIG THING"

As a person of negligible footballing ability I get a bit frustrated when you when you see those who have been blessed with a real gift of talent absolutely wasting it. Of those you list at least Jason Koumas had one good season. Has Ravel Morrison done anything ? As far as Robin Friday is concerned Reading were glad to be shot of him. He had one outstanding game for us but was otherwise a waste of time and space. If all the players mentioned here had got a grip one way or another they could all have had successful careers at the top but, for whatever reason, they didn't. What a waste.

No way Koumas should be in the same bracket as the rest of the losers. He played nearly 500 games for club and country.
Yes with a better attitude he might have played for bigger clubs but he didn't get bombed out of places without even playing, or playing a handful of times, like Taraabt and Morrison.

Most of which were played for Tranmere, Wigan and Cardiff.

Friday was voted Reading best player ever on a number of occasions. Agree he did very little during his time with the city.

Taarabt was Championship player of the year and has Spurs, Milan, Qpr and Fulham on his CV.

What ever happened to Dai Thomas, another waste.

    Re: Adel Taarabt

To even get to professional status is an achievement and difficult to criticise footballers in the moden era. Yes they earn good wages but the pressures from everywhere, including your "own camp" (agents) are such that it makes it incredibly hard to compete for the limited amount of places available.
Not only do you need to have the skill, physique, and ability to train hard and have the luck to stay clear from injuries, you also need to be mentally savvy and strong when things go against you.

The players mentioned above have all had addictions to something or been intellectually challenged.
They may well look back on their careers with regret but I would say to each of them, you got paid for what you loved doing where most of us paid to play.

Why are we talking about Tarabat? I know he played (when he felt like it) for Warnock at QPR, has it been suggested he might be coming here?

Perhaps title a little misleading? The OP mentions wasted talent which has become the theme.
Although... be great if NW could work his magic mind so who knows

Wigan were in the Premier League and Tranmere the Championship first time around.

He played more games for West Brom than Wigan and Cardiff put together so bit odd you fail to mention them.

Tarrabt has many top clubs on his CV but apart from QPR he hasnt made more than 14 appearances for any of them.

Thats the whole point of the thread?!? That he gets bombed out of nearly every club he signs for.

He would have Benfica on his CV if he managed to make an appearance for them

I don't think they parted on good terms, and I think his attitude has only got worse since.
As a 21 year old he was about the best player I've seen at this level. However he has managed to alienate himself at every club he has been at.
It would be too much of a gamble to try to bring him here IMO

The President of benfica publicly stated that he would never make an appearance for the club. Only weeks after signing him. Fook knows what he did.

He has far more talent than Jason Koumas but has completely wasted it apart from that 1 season when he tore up the Championship.

Same applies to Ravel Morrison, the guy has the talent to be a top Premieship player if he was willing to listen but clearly he has zero respect for authority. If hes not going to listen to Alex Ferguson or Sam Allardyce then lesser managers have no chance.

He will probably end up at Birmingham with Harry ........

Agree Ravel was pants and arrogant , the stark difference was both Friday and Komas left us with some great moments of footballing magic , Ravel could not lace their boots

Agree with you about Morrison. However I think there is a distinction between Koumas and Friday. Koumas, to his credit, gave us one memorable season whereas Friday only showed what he was really capable of in one game and was mostly useless or absent for the rest of the time before he walked out on us.

Just highlighting he played for small clubs for a lot of his career and most of it outside the Premiership.
