City likely to be away on opening day as PL fixtures give us a clue

Swansea open their PL season away on Aug 12th at Southampton.

With Swansea and Cardiff playing opposite each other almost every matchday (there are a some exceptions) we can work out that Cardiff should be at home that day.

The Championship season kicks off a week earlier on Aug 5th and the way historical fixtures show us if a team is away on the opening day they are home for their second fixture. So if we are going to be at home on Aug 12th then a week before we will be away.

Looking further ahead it looks like Boxing Day will be a home fixture (opposite Swansea who are away) and also our last game of the season could be at home (as Swansea are away that weekend as well).

Cardiff are likely to be away on New Years Day if the pattern is correct.

The fixtures for the FL clubs will be announced on Wednesday 21st June.

Is the last day of the season the same for both leagues though? I think there was a fortnight difference in the season just ended.

We haven't had a home game on boxing day in a good number of years.

We lost 3-0 at home to Southampton on Boxing Day in Malky Mackay's last match, but we've been away on Boxing Day in all three seasons since we went down, so I'd say we're definitely due a home match.

Perhaps my memory is getting shit (or maybe because I don't go that often these days) but it seems to me that all the fixtures that I initially look for (first, last, Boxing Day etc.) are away these days?

If you North of Cardiff every game is an away game , that how it seems when they come down in their trains , buses and carts

The jacks are at Liverpool on Boxing Day, so you'd think we'd be at home.

What's going on here? The speculative opening post might suggest the boss has recently invested in a deerstalker hat or has been watching reruns of Murder She Wrote and believes he has developed Jessica Fletcher's intuition.

If he carries on in the same vein we'll have to dub him Mystic Mog.
