She says it means something different. However given no one else has ever heard the expression she's clearly pissing in the wind

Agatha Christie used it as a chapter title in a Poirot novel Dumb Witness and in the book "And then there were none" Both now changed
Somerset Maughm used it in the " Razors Edge"
Dr Seuss used it in a cartoon

Fell out of use in the later 20th century unsurprisingly.

Yes, It's not an expression I have heard for a very long time though.

Used to hear it bandied about a fair bit back in the day.
It is an old fashioned saying which should never have been acceptable back then - certainly not since - and definitely not now.

    Another clueless MP.

Why isn't anybody quoting exactly what she said, it's public record.

That's how I knew of the term, but, even if the n word didn't have it's extremely dodgy connotations for any white politician/person who uses it, I would never use it because I didn't know what it meant or where it was derived from - given this,

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/******_in_the_woodpile

there can be no excuse for the way it was used by Anne Marie Morris who joins a none too distinguished roll call of politicians (mostly Tory, but Labour aren't immune from using it either) who have used it in the fairly recent past.

"And then there were none" is not the original title. It was originally called "10 little ......."
the dots being the word this discussion is all about!!

It is now published with the new title which is the American title.

Yes, I just looked up when the name changed on Wikipedia and it was a lot earlier than I thought (1939 in America) - I first read it in the seventies and I'm pretty sure the book I read didn't have "And then there were none" on the cover.
