Arboriculturalists are a rip off! I had to remove 40 conifers and a couple of large ash trees from my new gaff a while back and was quoted £12k!!! I paid some of the local travelling community a tenth of that to do it and they did an excellent job. You don't need a specialist to chop down trees.

Whilst the last sentence is true, it does depend on the type, sizes and location of the tree.
I have lopped a few trees myself, one time borrowed a chainsaw which did the job, but some of these conifers, Lilandii (sp.) can be upwards of 70 feet high if you don't keep in top of them.
Personally I wouldn't touch anything over 20 feet as would almost certainly be a danger to myself, others and property.

You can buy extendable electric chainsaws which cut up to 200mm diameter for about 70 quid and a dozen trips to the tip in your hatchback would save you a bomb with the added bonus, you also have the chainsaw for future "surgery".

Trouble is, those that cut down your tree moved the cut logs and branches to a convenient industrial park, rather than taking it to a waste management site.

If youre going to use gypos dont make the mistake of paying them upfront.

I would quite like to be paid up front but now I'm afraid to insist on it.
