    Re: Squad Numbers

The disappearing Fred has been a bit of a joke for a while, but it is very strange that last season's No 9 has vanished so completely - without any comment or statement from the club and without any attempt from the local newshounds to even ask the question.

He started 2016-17 as our centre forward. He suffered injuries and a collapse in confidence, but Warnock gave him a short run and talked him up as the best finisher in training. Then he seems to have been injured again - but never mentioned by the manager or local 'journalists' in press conferences, and now has vanished.

Declan John, Stuart O'Keefe and Craig Noone all have squad numbers - and all or most of them are in the Bomb Squad.

The only player in a similar position to Fred is Ben Wilson - also without a number, but not airbrushed out of Cardiff history in quite the same way.

Wilson played for Oldham last night, so I'd strongly assume he's on his way out. Fred, though, seems to have vanished off the face of the Earth. That miss on the opening day (and what a miss it was!) seemed to completely erode his confidence.

    Re: Squad Numbers

Chances of us fielding numbers 1-11 in the same starting lineup must be pretty slim. I wonder when that last happened

That is a cracking quiz question, though I highly doubt anyone knows the answer

That looks like a pretty decent squad. A decent 22 at least.

The club have updated the team pages on the website today - and removed Guonongbe and Wilson.

They were both there yesterday. Not now.

Still, it gives us almost a month of speculation on who (if anyone) will be the new No 12. Something for the Ledley Clique?

    They should've retired the number.

that's going to feel and look awful strange not seeing whitts in the no 7 shirt.
Like most on here maybe the club could of retired the no 7 shirt just for this season.
But for a decade its been whitts shirt.
we have fans who have grew up with whitts as our no7
    from boys to men.
lets hope Tomlin does the shirt justice
it really is an end of an era ladies and gents

    Hope they've washed it.

Why can't he have his own shirt. ?

Re: Lee Tomlin takes over Peter Whittingham's No. 7 shirt

Holding it for a season in 'honour' would have been appropriate.

    There we go. Moving on.

I know right? seeing number 7 actually do something more than kick a penalty and the VERY occasional good free kick will be hard to adjust to..

Looking forward to seeing Tomlin in action. I just hope Warnock can keep him on his toes

FFS you muppets sound like he's died. He's gone to a lower league because he just isn't very good anymore. Tomlin is a far better player. Whittingham is completely overrated by the bum boys on here. Average at best.

Great way to talk about a man who made over 400 appearances for the club

Sure he isn't the player he was but he still deserves some respect
