Good there is a specific thread for this. His record was outstanding. The late great Richie Benaud said he would have played plenty of times for Australia if he was Australian.

Agree (was talked about earlier in the Glammy thread btw)

Without a shadow of doubt, better people than I to judge have said so.

Heard earlier on Radio Wales a tribute piece, part of which was David "Bumble" Lloyd (and Mike Selvey agreed) when asked last week following Shep's 90th birthday celebrations, who was the best player never to play for England.
Bumble's reply was, "there IS only one and that is Don Shepherd".

They were also saying that it was a terrible indictment at the time on the selectors, that back in those days England would take 3 or 4 spinners on tour.
Shep held no grudges and just got on with his business of taking innumberable wickets for Glamorgan.

Says something about the man. A true Legend of the game.

One of my first sporting heros.I was at St Helens when he hit 50 in 10 minutes against Australia,
Along with Allan Jones he should have played for England,
    Thanks for the memories Don,

A true giant if he was about now bowling, he'd be a first pick for the England and Wales cricket team ,technically a genius .
