What areas? From someone that knows nothing about NYC I was always under assumption to only stay in manhattan and avoid places like Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx like the plague

Really? I stayed in brooklyn heights with some friends in May and had a magnificent time. Brooklyn was great and easy connecting to the rest of NYC.

I visited friends there in May.

Amazing city. True New Yorkers are some of the most friendly people I have met.

I was a little spoilt by the friends I stayed with in Brooklyn Heights... Quite a lovely house and location.

Did the touristy things but hanging around locals was super fun.
