Thread: Warnock and Redknapp - what a ridiculous article!

Warnock and Redknapp - what a ridiculous article!

If we're talking about what they've both done in terms of winning trophies and league positions while managing in the Premier League, then Redknapp wins hand down, but, frankly, there's no comparison between the two on the grounds of financial prudence in the transfer market - Arri spent more on one player (Jota) on Thursday than Warnock did all summer and has a history of leaving clubs with serious financial problems, whereas Warnock is right to claim that he has left virtually every side he has managed in a better state than when he took over.

    Strange comparison that.

I do remember HR turning West Ham fortunes round when they looked doomed for relegation, Hartson and Kitson being shrewd buys.
Perhaps better to compare their powers of man management and tactical nous.

    A laughable comparison.

Im pretty sure Arri has only actually won 1 trophy as well.

Redknapp loves the transfer window and always seems to bring in a lot of players wherever he is. Most never seem to make the first team but that won't stop him buying them.

Not much meat on the bones in terms of the article.

Redknapp has signed some quality players over the years.
Di Canio at West Ham, Sherwood and Merson to take Pompey up. He got that one good half season out of Ravel Morrison last time he took QPR up.
Also, he may have been backed but he signed some terrific players for Pompey in the Prem.

You only need to look at Portsmouth now and see the effect of arry's amazing transfers

He left 2 seasons before they were relegated!!

Apointments like Tony Adams and Guy Wittingham didn't help!

Besides Warnock ain't squeaking clean if you believe all you read. Taking a cut of player appearance money

Barking mad. Imagine going to an AA meeting and having him holding court. Straight to the pub for a pint and a chaser.

I see the article claims that both managers have been "weaving their magic again on a relative shoestring". While Birmingham's may meet the relative shoestring budget criteria when compared to, say, Man City, it is probably second only to Wolves when it comes to Championship clubs not in receipt of parachute payments - the last time Arry ad anything that could be properly called a shoestring budget was when he was at Bournemouth more than twenty five years ago!

Did he spend a lot of money taking Pompey up? I just thought he made a lot of shrewd buys and used his contacts to his advantage

Harry redknapp basically over spends so much and leaves the club fire fighting with the finances when he leaves. No wonder so many clubs are in such shit after he leaves.

Redknapp's approach to managing finances caused the decline.

Ah, the discredited "player appearance money" claim.

You would say that is an issue with the CEOs that he works with. A football manager always wants players. If you gave Warnock a blank cheque you would see loads of players coming in on big wages.

A football manager does not handle contract negotiations.

    Not these days anyway

I'd say when Harry and Warnock first started management they had a lot more involvement in players terms and contracts than they do now.
