    M5 Crash Yesterday

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-41297954

Absolutely awful - family of 4 (and dog) killed travelling north after tyre blow-out on shabby looking 'lorry' travelling south. Three other in intensive care.

M5 remains closed for investigation and cleaning up process.

Metal safety barriers should be replaced a.s.a.p.

I think all of M25 has concrete barrier in central reservation, as has a lot of the M4 between Cardiff and Newport.

M5 North closed and A38 gridlocked. All approaches congested. Check AA before travelling back to England.

notice the south side on the M5 is open but nothing about the north side on the news or on AA website . any news when they think it will open ?

looks like it will be the M50 route for me tomorrow morning . notice the bryn glas tunnels are closed till 6am tomorrow too !

Just got back to Nailsworth from Cardiff.
Looked on AA route planner at 6pm:

    • Brynglas tunnels shut for maintenance ... all day.
    • Log jam from Cardiff Gate as usual.
    • Roads in Newport in gridlock.
    • Magor to Bridge heavily congested due to M5 being closed Northbound.
    • M5 North probably remaining closed through the night and early morning.
    • Crash on Bridge (within last few hours) causing even more problems.

Just looked at AA site - looks as if M5 may be open now.

Decided to go through Merthyr, Abergavenny, Monmouth, Forest of Dean, Gloucester ... 2h30m later home.

If you usually use M5 north get onto the AA site early tomorrow ... otherwise M50 may be best bet.

WG are all over this, Newport will be sorted very shortly. In hearing 2159, just a few hours away.
