Apparently over 500 people have been injured, as the globalist supporting state police were hitting old ladies over the head with battons while trying to stop them from voting. Praise the lord for Brexit

This is not going to end well, local Catalan firefighters are also becoming victims of EU backed police brutality.

What the ferk has an internal dispute in Spain got to do with Brexit ?

It's really more like the British problem in Northern Ireland which Brexit may well make worse by
restoring a hard border with the Irish Republic.

Do you think the EU are neutral in all of this?

That ain't what you are saying in your earlier posts. You are saying the police were sent in by the EU. Spain are not neutral, the police haven't come from France, or Germany. You are a bit stupid.

Ironic that a lot of the people who are - quite rightly IMO - decrying the Spanish government for suppressing this referendum are also in favour of ignoring the result of the referendum we've recently held in this country.

Haven’t read into it, but it does seem Catalan are a lot more pro independence than Scotland ever was.

It's because Catalonia is one of the richest regions of Spain. Spanish government want to destroy any referendum for economic reasons. They also don't want the Basques kicking off either.

Where the EU fits in is that under their own regulation, any nation taking the action the Spanish have against their own people is illegal, and can lead to stringent sanctions against Spain. What I suspect will happen is that the Eu might come out with some kind of statement whilst not actually doing anything of note - if the EU don't take action against that kind of abuse then the obvious question is why would anybody want to be a part of it?

It's also worth pointing out the EU view of democracy is "you must agree with us" - see the number of referendums, Ireland in particular, where the populace were gently reminded to vote again - the right way this time.

Not really, few years ago it was as little as 70/30 (for those that gave a f***), pushing towards the vote today it would have been about 55/45. After today's events i'd say it's probably finally gone the other way of about 45/55 in favour of an independent Catalunya.

The EU also said that Catalonia would not automatically be part of the EU after independence, and it would depend on the other members whether they could join or not. A veiled threat perhaps?

No, that's exactly the same as with Scotland.

Catalonia, like Scotland are only existing members due to being part of an entity that is a member. Both, if independent, would have to make fresh applications.

What the EU said there is factually correct, that's the process for applying for membership.

Was it intended as a veiled threat.. eh... I think it's more the case senior EU members are crapping themselves over what to say so just stick to those facts.

Guardia Civil are members of the European Gendarmerie Force.

    From Wikipedia:

The European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR or EGF) was launched by an agreement in 2006 between five member states of the European Union (EU): France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. Romania joined in 2009; Poland in 2011. Its purpose is the creation of a European intervention force with militarised police functions and specialisation in crisis management. Its status is enshrined in the Treaty of Velsen of 18 October 2007. The headquarters are located in Vicenza, Italy.
