Thread: Day Of Reckoning

    Day Of Reckoning

Going to be a complete nail biter I think. If they score first and early they'll sit back and we'll throw the kitchen sink at them and watching will just be excruciating - Vice versa if we score early, although I hate seeing Wales our CCFC sitting back (of course I'd take that over 0-0 though)

But....I can see it being 0-0 until 75 mins then caution will be thrown to the wind and someone's going to get lucky

Would love a 3 goal lead by half time though - there's nothing worse than having multiple beers during the game and having to cut the good times short because the result doesn't go our way

    Come on Wales!!!!!

The same goes for us too. I can't see you scoring too many at any stage.
I do think many Welsh fans are overly confident. Coleman is for sure going by his interview yesterday.
If results were decided by managers, we'd breeze it.
Look out for McLean, he's very underrated.

    Re: Day Of Reckoning

Coleman always backs us, regardless of who we are playing. It's no reflection on Ireland, he'd probably say similar things if we were playing Belgium, Ireland or Moldova.

Expecting a nervy, close game. Hope both teams give it a go, bit worried the occasion will overcome both teams and it will end-up 0-0 which will suit neither.

    Re: Day Of Reckoning

It’s def a weird one. Hasn’t felt like we were really going to qualify for ages due to all the draws we suffered. The last 3 results have changed folk mindset somewhat but I still have my initial doubts along with the usual Wales|cardiff city surely we are not that lucky hat on. Maybe we will have it all, win and see Serbia fail to top the group, more like we draw and just miss out though, or will it be one of those historically bad nights and the Irish somehow win......

I can remember having to listen a game between Yugoslavia v Bulgaria in 1983 where the winner would qualify for the 84 Euros, while Wales would go through if it was a draw. It was 2-2 in added time, but, even then, I wasn't getting too excited because it was pretty obvious that someone was going to score because the game had become like basketball as it swung from end to end with a couple more attackers than defenders each time. In the end, it was Yugoslavia who scored and Wales had yet another of those close misses that we specialised in for nearly sixty years - in many ways, it was the closest we got to qualifying for a Finals tournament between 1958 to 2016, but all logic told you it wasn't going to happen.

Normally I'd say there was a good chance of tonight's game finishing 0-0, because we're talking about two well matched teams who aren't exactly free scoring, but the Republic are in the sort of position where a score that they'd normally be quite pleased with does them no good at all. If they get a corner in added time with the game all square, I can see their keeper coming up for it and so there'd be a great chance for Wales to break and score if they dealtwith the corner.

Wales are in a slightly different position because a draw might be enough for them under some circumstances, but it would be a very dangerous policy for them to play for a draw based on news that the latest score between Ukraine and Croatia in Kiev was 0-0, because that match would then become like that one in Yugoslavia thirty four years ago - I'll be very surprised if either game finishes 0-0, in fact, I'd say it's unlikely either of them will end in a draw.

Yes. The DAY OF DESTINY has arrived. Give it your all folks !

Win, lose or draw (of course we're gasping for a win) we have to appreciate what this team has done for our national football images compared to the dross we've had to put up with! Ymlaen Cymru !

Logically you're right, as the result suits neither team it shouldn't happen. I'm just concerned neither team will want to go behind and will both gamble on nicking it late.

I take the opposite approach to Coleman mind and never back us. He and I are actually starting to work quite well together as a team.

It's very simple, we just have to win. If we don't win then we deserve anything that may happen, it won't be bad luck at all. we are playing at home and the situation is entirely in our own hands.

I would be happier going out via a defeat than a draw with all the what-ifs etc. Win or lose tonight and that's great or OK. I'll be gutted with another draw if it means exit.

I don't know which fans you've been talking to but the ones I have are all filled with trepidation. The poll on here before the Georgia game showed there weren't many who fancied us to even make the play offs.

We have a huge amount of experience and hurt from decades of near misses, being robbed and downright bad luck.

I'm just hoping this new breed and our fantastic Euros have rid us of those depressing years.

I say we simply go flat out for it tonight and if we lose say 3-2, then so be it.

A few posters sounding as if Wales are the Wolves of International Football.

Realistic comments by Welsh fans. We're gonna win.

    Re: Day Of Reckoning

The realistic view is that Wales and Ireland have to win, so borh teams will be prepared accordingly.

Why can’t we not sound confident? We’re on a 3 game winning run, we’ve every right to be confident. Georgia was as you lot know a hard place to go to get a result. We’re home, I fancy us big time.

If you think otherwise then fantastic, but the best team will show tonight.

I'm usually a bit of a pessimist when Wales are playing but for this game I feel very confident. The only small doubt I have is that Coleman will field a defensive set up but as long as he plays an attacking squad we should coast it.

I think it's better to start defensively until we get the measure of Ireland, and then we can make some attacking substitutions if and when required.

    Great news.

It's the nippy little buggers that our Ash tends to struggle with.

I would hope Coleman is confident as the manager, he has to install that confidence to the players!!

Saying that I thought he was great in his interview and very respectful of the Irish. Didn't see over confidence at all.

He's been banging the same bloody drum all weekend, despite it being pointed out to him numerous times that most people aren't confident at all.

He sounds like he's got a bag of spuds on each shoulder tbh.
