With a son in the army, I can't abide watching all that killing shit, so for me it's back to the 60's/70's.

    Things like:---

    Kellys Hero's

    Dambusters

    Longest Day

    Dirty Dozen

Yes you see people getting killed, but not so graphic.

Enemy at the gates isn't a bad account of the Nazis verses the red army at Stalingrad but thankfully it's not as graphic as the book which is very distressing and disturbing

Watched the last half hour of the Great Escape yesterday (us pensioners, lazy f uckers), forgot about the James Coburn bit, where the French waiters say there is a phone call for him, then they duck down behind the counter, brill.

Thanks for your kind message of concern.

    black hawk down

i watched sand castle last night, its a decent film to be fair, shows the Issue we have in Iraq

also saw " operation dunkirk " last week ( i spend a fair bit of time sat in my van waiting for my oldest when she is netball training ) , a word of advice, give it a miss, its dire, not sure how the hell they made such a crap film, IMDB has it at 3.9 out of 10, thats a generous score imho

Some great shouts above but can't agree with Enemy At the Gates, other than some excellent action shots at the start it's hard to find much to like about it personally. Most of the plot feels very tacked on and the fake russian accents are nails on a chalkboard. Ron Perlman is great in it mind.

Some of my favourites which I haven't seen mentioned yet:

    The Thin Red Line

Stalingrad (1993 one, not the newer Russian film)

    Downfall

    Letters from Iwo Jima

The Admiral - it's a newish Russian film about one of the leaders of the anti-communist armies (the "White Army" during their civil war) Great action stuff and the story is really interesting, good look into one of the weirdest times in recent history.
