A lot of 'academies' are no more than soccer schools which you end up paying your kid to go to.

If either comes back to you then there may be a choice to be made, but at 5 he should just be having fun with his mates and as near to home as possible.

Ridiculous that clubs are even approaching kids at this age imho

Whilst I can see where you're coming from, children who are asked to the pre academy of both clubs won't have to pay a penny, it is different in the development or adc squads though.

I depends on the kid I suppose. If he has a passion for the game then I believe it can be a good thing. Would the kid rather play against Mountain Ash or Man City?

The role of the parents are crucial for any kid that decides to pursue that road. You are there to take the pressure off not to increase it.

I would rather my lad play football at as good a standard as he possibly can than sit in the house on an Xbox all winter.
