The late Jeff Porcaro. He was the most in demand session drummer of all time and one of the most recorded session musicians in history.

For sheer heavy rock power I would say John Bonham from zep or bill ward from Sabbath

Ginger baker of cream was brilliant

Keith moon was a heavy drummer and Ringo Starr was very much underrated

But for sheer all round skill I would say Neil Peart from Rush

Mind you a lot of the new crowd know their way round the tubs , helmet , queen's of the stone age , every time I die and Mastodon all have great stickmen
The master John Bonham the rest just follow

Leave Sludge alone he went out today to Home Bargain today and provides lovely music teasing, think the political thread should be taken back into the single thread

    Joe Jordison

Neil Peart would be my pick as my favourite all around drummer.
Brian Downey of Thin Lizzy is very very underrated, still playing now & rated as having one of the best 2 foot shuffles in the business.
Also a mention for Scott Travis of Judas Priest

I have seen Cozy Powell 2 times, Bill Ward, Mel Gaynor zillions of times, Marco Minnemann, Joe Travers and have seen this chap (Gavin Harrison) 2 times in the last year, of the drummers i have seen live, none of them have had as much influence over the sound as Gavin Harrison, a genius behind the cans, The Pineapple Thief tour was marketed as the The Pineapple Thief, featuring Gavin Harrison, a drummer I would have liked to have seen in his prime was Stewart Copeland, so much rhythm, talking to covers band around the valleys, you very rarely hear rush covers, it's not because of the work by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, it's because of Neil Peart.

We do need to keep him the feck away from the Friday night music thread though, page after page of metal, whatever the theme..

    Re: Fao Mike Morris

    Good idea actually.

Make the Friday Night Music thread as a sticky, but change it to a different title such as 'The Bluebirds Love Music' thread.
