Always great to see one of the old firm get pegged back
If the “Old firm” were in the Championship Celtic would make the play-offs, Rangers bottom half
Rangers manager sacked.
Celtic would hold their own in the premiership. Tiernan, Brown, Gordon, Dembele, Roberts, Armstrong, Griffiths, Sinclair, + another 1or 2 would walk the Championship. As for Rangers, League 1. They are truly shocking.
Complain about the SPL all you like, they can only play whose up against them.
60k every home game in the championship. They are a massive club, on a par with Real Wolves.
Not if they had to play tidy teams not park teams in the main
I couldn't give a feck about the old firm , always good to see them lose , Motherwell brought several thousand down to Llanelli a few years back , far more than the mighty Celtic did for a pre season friendly when they told us to expect 5000
I bet there are lots of comments on the Rangers/Celtic boards about Cardiff .
Lots.
Probably are, they wish they could play in this kind of competitive domestic league.*
* Not really, why would they move from Easyville?
Up the Celts 🇮🇪🇮🇪😃😃😃
Football is all about money , Scottish football has been left behind compared to the premier league , probably way behind the prize money available in the championship . Nothing I say will change that fact .
Despite the fact there is no money here we are discussing the merits of a poor Rangers side and Scottish football in general , we even have Sludge joining in a football post rather than banging on about his personal life .
The Welsh league is a football fest comparable to amatuer football anywhere in the third world .
Ah, the old chestnut "What standard would Rangers or Celtic play in the English League".
Both their current teams would be championship at best but lets face it, they both have huge support and generate vast sums of money.
In the unlikely event that they were allowed to play in the English tier system, both their profiles would grow and doubtless their quality and, perhaps, their success.
At the moment, Celtic have players who help them piss the league at a canter but who would lets say just about hold their own or perhaps challenge for play offs.
From a Celtic board point of view, there is currently no reason to strengthen with better players and outlay larger sums of money on fees and wages.
Even if they did manage to attract top players, these would soon be dragged down to the level of their league as their potential would not be challenged often enough.
Celtic pull off a great result in Europe every so often but will never see them hit the heights of 1957 simply because of the lack of depth in their league.
It is not about these clubs splashing the money alone, though it is a very important part, it is about the standard of competition.
Until the likes of Killy, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs et al attract top players (highly unlikely) then Celtic and Rangers will always be open to (tongue in cheek) ridicule.
Up the buoys
Scottish football has been left behind because of Celtic and Rangers. Everything done was for their benefit; sod the rest of the clubs. Days of an Aberdeen coming along and doing what they did under Ferguson have gone, unlikely would return for decades - because the Old Firm looked after number one.
Celtic and Rangers wouldn't ever be in the Championship. Why not? For the simple reason the backlash that would be generated over two teams being parachuted in. Neither would want to start at the absolute bottom of the pyramid and spend years working their way up. Plenty of teams wouldn't want their fans anywhere near them tbh.
The Old Firm killed any competition. The SPL would be more competitive and I dare say interesting as a genuine sporting contest if both Celtic and Rangers failed to exist.
Turned a two club league into a one club league. Then again, Rangers shouldn't have been scum causing a new team to be created...
Either you want a boring, stagnant league with at most 2 clubs dominating or you want a vibrant league full of competitive matches which drives standards up for all.
Chris Burke plays for Kilmarnock now then?
Finally got back to Scotland then.
