    Americans and their national anthem

I must admit to warming to American sports more these days. Especially the baseball.

Game 5 of the World Series is about to start and they just had the anthem sung by a fella (a country singer i guess) but the crowd were silent.

Here the anthem is sung by all, the designated singer and the crowd. There it was the soloist only. Is there a reason for that?

It's a hard song to sing so they don't bother (sounds messy).

How hard is it to learn how to sing your national anthem?

We know ours and 95% of us don’t even speak the language.

Thick and lazy if you ask me.

I think that the difficulty referred to may relate to the ability in singing the anthem in tune rather than reproducing the lyrics.

I don't know 'our' national anthem if you're referring to GSTQ. I could just about manage the first verse but after that I'm lost.

    God Save the Queen

    God save our gracious Queen,
    Long live our noble Queen,
    God save the Queen!
    Send her victorious,
    Happy and glorious,
    Long to reign over us,
    God save the Queen!

    O lord God arise,
    Scatter our enemies,
    And make them fall!
    Confound their knavish tricks,
    Confuse their politics,
On you our hopes we fix,
    God save the Queen!

    Not in this land alone,
    But be God's mercies known,
    From shore to shore!
    Lord make the nations see,
    That men should brothers be,
    And form one family,
    The wide world ov'er

    From every latent foe,
    From the assassin's blow,
    God save the Queen!
    O'er her thine arm extend,
    For Britain's sake defend,
    Our mother, prince, and friend,
    God save the Queen!

    Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour,
    Long may she reign!
    May she defend our laws,
    And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
    God save the Queen!

It is still a bag of miserable imperialist doggerel set to the most depressing dirge in the history of music, but at least the powers that be have stopped explicitly abusing the Scots in the current version.

I have attended a number of Native American pow-wows in the States, including the biggest one off all, the one at Window Rock, Arizona. Considering the cruel treatment to them by the American government in their history they still all rallied to the Star Spangled Banner at the end of the proceedings.

Yesterday at Twickenham in the American Football.

A Man singing a song about The Royal Navy not being able to capture Fort Mchenrey in 1812.

Immediately followed by a Crowd singing a song about the descendant of the guy who sent them there to do it.

In America, that's down to being good at sport and thus getting college scholarships which also include people doing your work for you to keep grades up so you're eligible to play sport. Any crimes will of course be covered up too.

New version of the USA anthemn.

    Donald Trump is a chump
    Donald Trump is a chump
    Donnnald Trump is a chump
    Donald Trump is a chuump

Continue in this vein , it fits the whole song perfectly.

Re: Americans and their national anthem

Why sing the anthem for a non international game anyway ?

The arrogance of Yanks calling a domestic competition " The World Series " is stupid enough to start with.
