The plebs caught on long since it's a grab what you can, everyone for themselves beano from the top of the top to those right at the bottom.

Evidence for this is the 12 million Britons entitled to claim Winter Fuel Allowance... just 400 decline the payment; that's 1 in every 6,400.

The Tories made a critical error at the last GE when they suggested means-testing that freebie.

The problem is that any cut to pensioners freebies is going to cost any party. Some freebies that the oaps get could be reduced dramatically but it would be political suicide.

Sadly, old people have more power in our democratic system than the young, who have to suffer those policies for years.

Try Bono and Madonna as well as some US officials and the Queen's estate investors.

Bono...... a sanctimonious hypocrit who has built his rep of being Geldof junior by avoiding tax.

The endgame is the mark of the beast: an implanted chip that contains all personal info, security clearance level, access to one's digital savings and tracking device all in one.

Seems a long way off to me.

I guess wanting some kind of transparency makes me a brainwashed idiot.

What was the loophole - wasnt it something like transfer the money off shore then loan it back, and this apparently was a way to avoid the tax.

Why not have a law that says you need to pay tax in the country where the transaction / sale / work was done. I know we cant do that at the moment with the EU as you can place yourself in any low tax country like Ireland / Holland etc.

But the Govt needs to pass a law on day 1 post EU that changes this sort of loop hole for good.

Mrs Browns Boys were even in on the act FFS

I do indeed , how many folk have reduced the payment of a building job by paying cash to avoid VAT , then multiply that by the many millions that did , then multiply that into the value not paid in tax ,bingo social care paid for.

Nor me, I would prefer to live in a society that strives towards an advanced stage of social development and organization, not one that is going backwards.

TBH, I dont know what the 'answer' is regards all this, nor where it is all leading, but that's the bit that makes me laugh/cry -
Some of these folks have hundreds upon hundreds of millions and they are desperate to pay no tax whatsoever.

Unfortunately we endorse it. I know Lewis Hamilton is a frequent target in these kind of discussions but the fact that some sociopathic dogbrain tax-exile can be voted (by taxpayers presumably) SPOTY, whilst not important, just sums up how asleep we are as a nation.

Must say, I don't get the notion of ignore the message because of who the messenger is at all - even if the BBC is what it's detractors on here claim it to be, the fact is that they have considerable evidence showing that people who can easily afford to pay the relevant taxes are avoiding/evading doing so, sometimes on legally dubious grounds it seems and always on morally dubious ones.

I was listening to a phone in on this issue yesterday and, right at the start of the programme, a lady absolutely nailed it when she said that the really telling thing was the way defenders of the likes of that great sportsman Lewis Hamilton talk about "I" and "me" all the time and not "us" and "we" - nothing will ever dissuade me that we turned into a moire selfish society some time around forty years ago.

This isn't really the same thing.

    Re: Trillions in Tax avoided

It's human nature at a basic level. Would you pay £10 for a pint if the pub next door was selling beer at £5 a pint ?

Maybe it would be easier if the follwing happened :-

Everyone pays 15% tax on EVERYTHING with NO loop holes. If you buy it or sell it in the UK and you live or are domiciled in the UK you pay tax here. No ifs or buts no Isle of Mann VAT flip on jets etc.

And if you get caught not paying your 15% you will pay the difference plus 10%.

At the same maybe someone could have a chat with Ireland , Jersey, Guernsey and everyone else to stop their little games
