Magazines are on their arse. We are constantly under pressure in the print industry to cut prices as publishers are struggling because they are practically giving adverts away.

Advertising in a magazine is old hat. You can reach a much larger audience online.

The lies publishers tell to potential advertisers is off the scale. We’ve had 50,000 inserts sent in for a magazine with a 2000 print run!!!

What really winds me up is when you spend £5 on the thing, read an article then they print “to read more on this go to www.......”

As a kid I used to buy these little A5 magazines/books called “Football Picture Story Monthly”.
They were comic book stories like Roy of the Rovers and I collected every single one.
They did them in Dandy and Beano as well. Wish I’d kept them.

I kept every one of the at least the first three years of ROTR under my bed. I bought some annuals on ebay a few years back.

My older cousin gave me a pile about 2 foot high of old ROTR and I read every one of them. I then started buying them myself. Around about the time Hot Shot and Mouse signed for Melchester, and Racey was player manager.

I also used to have Shoot and Match every week and the annual every year. I was quite proud of my collection.

I just read that the monthlies were 26p in 1986 rising to 30p by 1988.

My nan used to give me 2 quid a week pocket money, or a quid a day when I stayed with her over the school holidays, so very affordable for me.
