Cos we're already gridlocked and need even more vehicles on our roads

Bit silly if you do that. You need to be able to intervene and take over control at times.

Drink and be driven. Soz mate. See what you mean. Taxi can do that and I haven't got to pay his tax or insurance or mot in full or plug it in or have a stupid camera poking out the top. I can tell him to turn up the radio or haggle with him about the best route or ask him questions about all sort of sh#t or pretend I'm asleep so I dont feel like answeing any of his.

I thought they already had non-intervention driverless cars, or is that the next phase?

You will still be drunk in charge of a vehicle if it crashes and you are over the limit.

A complete and utter waste of time , ditto electric cars until they have the range
to take me to Cardiff and back (150 miles).

Probably talking bollocks, but I thought that was a legal requirement? I'd personally not want to be in a vehicle that you can't intervene on - seeing a head on collision imminent, I really wouldn't want to risk it.

Tesla Model S, from memory, can do 300 miles.

Who the ferk are Tesla ?

Who would spend shed loads of money on new untested technology ?

Untested in the real world I mean not on closed roads and labs.

I won't be buying one in the remnants of my lifetime that's for sure.

I suppose it will happen. Used to be a guy with a red flag walking in front of a motor. Tessla new truck can do 5000 miles but the battery pack costs more than 5 diesel trucks don't it? Riderless bikes will be next.

They are reporting 350 miles on full charge in "ideal driving" conditions.

That means driving very slowly without harsh acceleration or braking.

Well, driving smoothly is the key to energy consumption; electric, diesel, petrol...

Nowhere near an expert of cars but do these electric cars have anything like the KERS systems in F1? Self-recharging would make them more acceptable to most people I'd have thought.

Totally serious but I am an old git.

As I said above I don't think I'll be buying one in my remaining lifetime.

How much do they cost ? More than a Ford Focus I'll wager.

Proximity warning. There is a driverless Iceland truck about to cut you up with some minceless pies.

    Re: Driverless Cars....Why!!!

The only benefits I can see are commercial - deliveries and freight saving on the cost of drivers.
I can see the fraudsters rubbing their hands already.
I assume that these cars will be fully laden with cameras at every angle in case of accidents for insurance claims and the like...
    Big Brother evolution?

You rarely see a Bobby on the streets these days, perhaps traffic police will be phased out too.
Imagine the scenario, an accident occurs and driverless police car and ambulance turn up!

I like to think I'm not a luddite. But who really benefits. The extra recreational time served up to pro drivers can be filled with job applications. Plus I like driving most of the time. Getting out of Asdas can be a pain which is why I park by The Cornwall. They should just fast forward to star trek or stop altogether. What's going to be the difficult third album as it were after the driverless car?

So... who exactly is stopping you driving?

EDIT: As for who benefits, well you don't get deliveries held up as driverless car decided to stop for a fag, a swift half pint oh and a Big Mac due to feeling a bit peckish along with stopping in at Argos for that thing their partner wanted them to get.
