What are the current methods of dealing with rising damp?

I know about chemical insertion, but there used to be an alternative system of installing from the outside.

Our home is solid brick. I don't want to hack off the plaster inside if i can avoid it.

Might be wrong, but can't they spray something from the outside now, or is that just a prevention in the first place? Might be confusing it with something totally different..I'm back on nights...
