    MP thousands of porn images

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-42151148

If that was any public employee they would have been suspended immediately.

He is not having any of it. He will sue anyone that dare wpquestion his conduct. Beware. And he's from Barry so he means it. 😣

Viewing paaawn in work will become 'acceptable' soon, no doubt.
So long as not taboo subjects* and viewed on your 'lunch break' ..
*Who is going to decide that? .. !

You CANNOT view porn on a government computer. Sackable offence.

Absolutely. I'm just hypothesising , semi tongue in cheek, that it may no longer be forbidden - one day sooner or later.

Re: MP thousands of porn images

    @ninianclark.
    Indeed.
It has to be beyond reasonable doubt .
And, from what is known so far, I don't think it is.
There should have been systems in place to detect / block such activity at the time.
Incredible that Westminister / Central Gov IT policy and practice is, or was apparently so lax.

The coppers notebook is a legal document isn't it? Thought that had all the relevant notes in it. They read from it in court like its legal.

Re: MP thousands of porn images

Ninianclark, I'd say it's far more likely he had the evidence and isn't carping on from the sidelines. It's remarkably detailed for someone just making it up on a whim. He also says they have done much of what you said, cross-checked and so on. He was repeatedly watching porn in between sending emails from his account (allegedly).

It strikes me that this is an ex copper who has grave concerns that this guy is going to get away with it. So he's gone public.

Re: MP thousands of porn images

Lardy, Joe, I concur with your points too
    .
I'm not sure how they know so much minute by minute detail and activity - so very, very retrospectively, if it was not flagged up at the time.
    That seems a bit strange.

I'm the last person who I'd expect to see standing up for a greasy Minister TBH. If there is absolute proof, he should be sacked and shamed like all and any others who he lords it over.

It is a strange and unsatisfactory affair. You should be sacked for letting someone watch porn on you're important computer you didnt protect whilst you nipped out the office shouldn't you. Irrespective

I think combining browsing history and email use is fair easy to do. There's little doubt for me that what the ex copper says is correct so that's why I disagree with ninianclarks post. I don't buy that he might be innocent.

Is it worrying that the police/ex police can go public with someones data, no matter how well intentioned? Now that's a discussion.

And that's another good point. If his computer is open for someone to watch porn on for hours, then that's sackable. Not to mention the risk of malware on a computer presumably accessing sensitive databases.

That's a good point. It's an unusual case. Handled in an unusuall manner and I reckon if the government was stronger he would be toast. Another question again.

Re: MP thousands of porn images

Ok Ninian. Is he denying that he downloaded/gawped at it or that there was porn on the computer. Either way buck stops with him don't it. WHat's he saying?? One of them is lying. Or if they both right n there was porn n he didn't,look at it then he is still in the wrong.

Re: MP thousands of porn images

    Have I got this right?

The ex copper making the allegations is Neil Lewis, who appears to be involved in the original raid

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a8086221.html

His boss, Bob Quick was aware at the time, that officers had reported finding porn on Green's computer

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a8086221.html

Sir Paul Stephenson, ex Met Commissioner was also briefed at the time re the alleged porn, but regarded them as a "side issue"

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...en-porn-claims

Happy to give innocent until proved guilty, but if the above is correct, it doesn't look to me like a case of a disgruntled ex copper with an agenda

Having said that, it would be pretty hard to imagine the issue getting that far up the food chain without some sort of hard evidence

As an ex cop I’d like to think the ex cop is probably telling the truth.

    Good luck proving it mind!

As an ex cop - would you expect there to be some sort of evidence, given that the issue got as far as a Met Commissioner?

CsrdiffIrish is a policemans notebook a legal document? I know you know these things. Thanks mate.

As I said I don’t think he’d be so ballsy to declare this if he didn’t think it true.

    However proving it now.....hmmmm

Once this is done they then do the forensic analysis of it - so preserving the original disk. 2 images are then made - one for the Police to carry out their investigation and one for the defendant - so they can also get a security company to analyse it for verification. The original disk is kept in a sealed bag and cannot be opened unless authorised.

If any of the above has not been completed - no case to answer, it will be thrown out of court if it ever gets there in the first place. And NO a 'policemans' hand written notebook is not worth the paper it's written on when digital evidence is concerned
    Thanks for that.
I'm conversant with certain fields within IT, but not Forensic procedure.

Re: MP thousands of porn images

Well obviously the Officer would have to disclose it and it can be used in evidence.

However as Ninian clark says you’d need the hard drive and such forth. Most of the time when notebooks are submitted they are usually kept in the disclosure files that the defence and prosecution share but in what’s called the unused evidence files.

I’d say I appeared in court well over a hundred times and it wasn’t that often my notebook was used in evidence.

The notebook as I say is disclosable but its going to need a lot more then that.

As an ex cop I can’t stand what this present govt has done to the Police, Green and May should hang their heads in shame but I don’t think this is going to go anywhere.

Ta mate. I weren't sure. He was only a shadow minister so the ministerial code don't apply then. He will try n walk this one. Too big to fail at the moment he is.
