Yes Labour opposition very bad very bad. Now that's out of the way...
Take a look at David Davies talking to the Committee. He didn't say anything like that. He pretty much just shrugged his shoulders and said we got nothing, not even an attempt to bluff his way out.
This isn't petty political point scoring, I've got no idea if Keir Starmer (or whatever his name is) has made any comments. Davies looks like a man who's had enough of it all, and I can't say I blame him personally. But feck me, it's nearly 18 months since the referendum result!
I have to say I find the notion of us having to reveal everything is madness and the word negotiating is key perhaps Kier should chat with is main funding friends Unite as they know a lot about not revealing all your cards or have a running commentray , would be nice if Labour would support as all they are doing is delaying our agreement and probaly seeing industry and jobs going in this period of hesitancy.
I also think Europe spin doctors are using Labour to make the Goverments position even more difficult , or even force a second vote .
Yep the Goverment is being attacked from within and outside the UK.
So much for the care of normal folk and jobs as long was we get what we want chaos ,the very reason why May called the election, able to negotiate from a postion of power.
I believe our sovereign parliament determined that the impact assessments should be shared with the Brexit Select Committee members rather than be revealed worldwide. After some partial and redacted documents were shared after pressure Davis racked up today to confess that there was nothing else and nearly 18 months down the line we may be heading to a point many on the right have wanted all along (a hard Brexit based on WTO rules allowing a rush to a heavily deregulated economy) without any structured idea of what that might mean for the UK. It is worth remembering that the UK negotiating position and its red lines were determined by May and an advisor and seemingly not shared with anyone in her own party let alone consultation with the Opposition before she set it out at the 2016 Tory Party Conference (not our sovereign parliament). She decided to go to the country on this basis and reduced her majority as a result. If what we have now is strong and stable god help us!
^^
Good post Cyril.
It is taking the absolute piss. Or possibly all going to plan. Some other plan.
But probably just blatantly taking the piss.
Or..
He said it with a straight face as well the exact opposite of Hilary Benn's face who was open mouthed with incredulity.
Spot on Ninian back in the day as an union official we always signed and negoaited two deals , one for the members to cheer about and a more probatic one that worked seems the world of socialism and deals gets forgotten when the hate is intense, If any of them play poker let me known love making on revealing hands, lol.
Isn't it strange how silent the immigration issue has become .
I'm sure were not , however we need to strip away the political agenda and perhaps accept we are/were nieave in these matters across the political divide, those who voted out were equally nieave and Cameron should havd manned up and said no vote as the public hasn't or never will understand the complexities of this decesion , I would say the lot in charge are probaly the best we have in terms if experience of goverment and Europe in particularly Davies who all Labour voters need to hate , I'm no fan but feel meduimly safe in his hands, than that of the opposition.
Not great ,shit decesion the no vote.
The American economy is flying since they told the globalists where to go, maybe it's worth investigating their economic nationalism trade model?
You are not far from understanding the ambition of the hard Brexiteers. The key changes under Trump have been deregulatory particularly around environmental restrictions and fiscal policy. Banking reforms aimed at stopping a repeat of the financial crash have been eased or removed and taxes for corporations and the wealthy are in the process of being slashed.
Johnson/Fox/Rees-Mogg/Jenkin/IDS/Redwood//Gove (though he has gone a bit native since taking over Defra) all see the great prize of Brexit as having the freedom to slash regulation and create a Singapore on Thames. Agreements with the EU that require regulatory alignment or equivalence are abhorrent to them as is any idea that there would be some European Court being an arbiter of disputes.
The Brexit vote winning elements that brought a swathe of working-class votes on board (immigration, NHS) figure far lower in their priorities and in the case of the NHS would be a deregulatory target further down the line. If you look at the political history of the people mentioned there is nothing in their philosophy that suggests any great care for the less affluent in society so this element of the Brexit campaign was always a cynical trojan horse.
The dangerous bit is when those people, many of whom were expressing a democratic opinion for the first time, find out that they have been duped and that the brave new world is not being created for their benefit.
Amuses me how those backing the Government's position/non position accuse people of having political agendas or petty political point scoring then develop their argument by blaming the opposition .
We are in a process which should be above party politics - it's too important to get bogged down in such things.
Quite. It's a government feck up. The opposite are shite but it's owned by the government. You can swap Tory and Labour round and I'd say exactly the same.
I don't trust the cabinet to do a decent job. It's not to say I'd prefer Corbyn and others, but simply that. These guys are making a pig's ear of it.
There's a very powerful argument that something like this should be cross-party.
