It's best to question everything we are told and taught. Propaganda, lies and fake news have been around since man could first speak. God knows how many historical anecdotes and stories are either pure fiction or highly embellished. That's why I have always been reticent to embrace historical heroes, political affiliations etc.
And you know my take on religions and the concept of royalty by now....
