I cared a lot 20 years ago. I cared a bit 10 years ago. Now I hardly care at all. I'm much more interested in Glamorgan. Even then not so much that I go far out of my way to watch them live. I do enjoy the Glammy match reports from the 4-5 regulars on here that know their stuff though.
Cricket wasn't big in Ely, I personally don't know anyone who likes cricket. I've worked at sea and offshore for forty years, can't think of any cricket fans I’ve met, so it's fair to say that, for whatever reason, I don't encounter cricket fans. Maybe I've just been lucky.
I like the "I've never met a cricket fan" argument. Unlike football fans, cricket fans don't have an innate urge to tell everyone about the sport they like, the team they like, the game they saw, the game they are going to see.
He's probably met a few cricket fans, they're just not boasting about it like it is some sort of achievement.

Lunch and tea are the highlights. That and some guy in the crowd catching the ball.
