That's so sad to hear, 59 is no age.

A great player in his day.

    RIP Big Cyrille.

    Very sad news.

If anyone hasn't read The Three Degrees by Paul Rees, I recommend it.

Regis (and Cunningham and Batson) were so much more than great players.

You read tributes to some well known people who have died and, somehow, you feel that they aren't really meant and the person who has passed away was, to be frank, a right bastard. I may be misreading things completely here (I'm pretty sure I'm not though), but it seems to me that the tributes being paid to Cyrille Regis are genuine and heartfelt - he always came across as a decent bloke and I believe the sincerity of what is being said today about the man confirms this was the case.

I've also got a sense of shock this morning, because it seems so odd that someone who was so strong physically as a player should die so young - bluntly, there are some people in life who I think there is now way I'll outlive them and Cyrille Regis was one of them.

    RIP.

I don't think 59 is particularly young. I knew loads of people who died before that. Footballers, despite all their training and fitness, don't on average live any longer than anyone else. There was a article in the paper the other day about the last survivor of the 1959 Forest team. A lot of them didn't make 70. The journalist Godfrey Smith died recently. He was always very overweight and a big drinker. I doubt if he ever missed a meal in his life but he lived to be 91. I think it is mainly down to genes.

    Really sad news.

I remember him on MOTD in the days of only 2 televised games playing for West Brom as clear as day... the pundits & media going mad for him.
Big powerful, great physique and big muscular forwards were not common in those days.

    Nice one Cyrille

Really sad news. Was a great player in his day. Took an awful lot of racial abuse but seemed to just shrug it off and get on with his game. RIP Cyrille

Any football fan would have loved Regis as their centre forward. Powerful, strong with a fine shot on him and a powerful header of the ball. He was charismatic with a great attitude. Yet he had to put up with being spat at because of his skin colour and received a bullet in the post prior to playing for England.
I loved watching him and that West Brom team of the late 70’s.

Paul is right. The tributes are heartfelt to a brave and thoroughly decent man. He has died at a young age...59 is nothing these days. RIP Cyrille.
