Thread: Warnock on Talksport

    Warnock on Talksport

2 things to come out of this.

1.Picking a stronger team tonight because the lads all fancy a crack at citeh.

2.Seems we are after 1 striker and one m/f player.Said he might have to spend more than he has so far on a m/f player though 2 other loans are also possible. Also looking at 2 strikers one of which could be a permanent signing.

    Re: Warnock on Talksport

So a midfielder over the value of 1.5 million and a striker.

I've heard things said about Grabban and his attitude, I'm not itk on anything like that, but given a choice out of him and the Bolton lad surely this is the one to get us goals? (if it is him)

Bit of grit in the midfield and I think we could be good for top 2. Or at least push all season..

We've got plenty of "grit" in our midfield, I'd like to see someone with a Warnock type attitude who can play a bit brought in.

There doesn't seem to be anyone there to play the gunnar role.

Do you think if we got someone to fill in the gunnar role we could push Ralls a bit further forward?

I've always thought that Jordon Mutch would do well in a Warnock team. Tall, direct , drives the team forward.
Not playing at all at palace, and would presumably be available for a couple of million. wages would be a problem though.

I expect we are probably after someone more defensive though

Too injury prone, especially given our injury predicament at late. We desperately need someone to break up play as well, to cover for Gunnar.

I know someone who is never injured perhaps we could ask Bolton if we could get Whittinham on loan

Latest rumour on social media is we're paying £4 mil for Grabban and Chris Martin also being linked. The January market is definitely a sellers market!

Chris Martin is an interesting one. Very much out of favour at Derby, but would they want to strengthen a rival?

I'm beginning to think that Gunnar may have played his last game for us.

I always think that it shows the problems we have in midfield when there are so many opinions as to what sort of player we need. Some say we need someone who can run at the opposition like Jordon Mutch used to, others say we need a passer in there like, say, Barry Bannan, some say we need an experienced organiser, others that we need more grit and others want someone with more pace and stamina.

There are players around who could provide all of these things, but they don't tend to play in the Championship where you tend to get people who are good at some of those things and pretty ordinary at others.

I've felt for a long time that our midfield players are too similar. As I've mentioned before, it says so much about Neil Warnock's approach to management when he calls Gunnarsson and Ralls "bread and butter" players. That could be meant as a criticism when used by other managers, but I don't think our manager is being critical of the two of them at all, in fact I believe he is being complimentary because, essentially, he likes players who do "nowt fancy" in that area of the pitch, they stick to the basics and, in Gunnars and Ralls' case, do them pretty well.

Do we have too many "bread and butter" midfielders though? You ask could Ralls be pushed further forward, I think he could do a decent job in a number ten type role, but the team would lose a lot because I feel he's more effective in a deeper role - I'd say the same applies to Gunnar.

Bryson is the one out of our specialist central midfielders currently who has enjoyed most success in a more advanced position, but he seems to have lost the scoring and creating knack he had at Derby three or four years ago and, his fine goal against Sunderland apart, has shown few signs of rediscovering it here.

Of course, the player who is a natural for the advanced role is Lee Tomlin, but, it's pretty obvious now that, rightly or wrongly, Neil Warnock doesn't trust him enough to start games on a regular basis - we have flair players in our first choice starting eleven, but they need to put in the graft that Warnock wants as well.

I just think we need a midfield player who is a bit of a workhorse, but is also able to provide some of the passing continuity that we often lack - someone who is a "bread and butter" central midfielder, but whose specialist subject if you like is to help make any team he plays for pass the ball better.

Oh for a Graham Kavanagh again. That's what we need.

Not sure we need a Gunnar replacement. We have enough defensive midfield players to choose from.
If the club want to see Zohore regain some of his scoring form in the run in, we need a midfield player who can split defenses and create havoc with intelligent passing and movement.

    Re: Warnock on Talksport

On a serious note, I like to think of Ralls as "box to box" I just think if we had a solid player in there, he could still get back and help but have less of a responsibility to do So, he's good at picking up the ball and getting shots off.

I think we do need a grit (maybe the wrong word then) type player to replace gunnar who I doubt we will see a lot of now, but I agree we need a passer in there too.

Bit too much to as for 2 cm AND a striker?

Well, they did loan us Bryson. However, they were way down the table then but their capture of Ledley has been pivotal in their charge up the division. Given Bryson's injury record since his arrival here, Rowett (who I rate very highly) better not be about to offload another sicknote to us!

    You mean like Tomlin?
