I've lived there a couple of times on secondment for work.

Love the place, one of my favourite cities in the world.

Yep one of my favourite cities. I went there one late summer and the major firms had live bands playing outside their buildings to entertain their staff during their lunch breaks. The CNN tower is great and often you get live free entertainment around the lake. Also take the regular bus tour. One of the stops is in an area where wealthy retirees congregate to play mainly 70's rock music out in the open. I doubt that this would happen at this time of the year. Where are you staying? I stayed in the Strathcona which is close to the station and was in the centre of everything. Also take a trip to Niagara (which is not that far away) for a couple of days if you have time as that is definitely worth doing.

Moved here in 2011. The most amazing place. When and how long are you staying. Hopefully June onwards

    PM me if you like.

Really does depend on when you come

The city has fantastic food and drink, is obviously situated right on Lake Ontario which gives you other things to do

If you’re here before June you’ll likely have opportunity to see any one of the sports teams live as the Maple Leafs will make the playoffs in the NHL and the Toronto Raptors will do the same in the NBA - tickets will be like rocking horse shit though (and expensive)

The Blue Jays (MLB) and TFC (MLS) will be in their regular season and tickets easier to corne by. The Blue Jays is a must - great day out.

20 or more great craft brewpubs spread across the city

You’ll probably do the standard tourist stuff, but one tip is that if you do the CN Tower book a table at the revolving restaurant at the top. It costs about $30 just to go up to the top and the viewing platforms but that’s included when you book a table. Food is excellent up there and if you book a table for around 7.30pm you’ll get the chance to see day change to night over the city which is worth it. It takes about 40 mins to make a full turn and dinner will take you about 90 mins. It’s not overpriced either - you can have a good meal with drinks for about $90 a head (£55ish)

Thanks all, seems like I do have something to look forward to. Going end of June so unfortunately miss the sports. I have looked at the CNN tower dinner and seems really good value so will book for that, we have four full days there so will also take a day exploring Niagra. We are staying in a hotel next to the CNN tower, so pretty central I think.

I also like the sound of the craft beer.

Thanks for the offer of the PM option SOOC, I will take you up on that nearer the date.

Got relatives there so will be going sometime soon, hear a lot of good things. Lakes further north to chill out also, mountain hikes, bears?

Re: Anyone On Here Had A Break In Toronto ?

Went on a football tour with Bridgend Street some years ago, 52 of us, games in Toronto and Niagara, fantastic time. Stayed on the university campus just off Yonge Street, more of less dead central. Of all the things we saw and got up to one moment stands out and is still spoken about to this day. We were using a diner called ‘Brothers’ on Yonge Street for breakfast most mornings, a bustling place, packed every morning with office workers on their break or prior to going to the office. Four of us sat down in a booth, breakfast arrives, one of the lads picks up the red sauce and gives it an almighty shake, top comes off, tomato sauce carnage!!!!! A poor young lady in the next booth to us had it all over her hair and her immaculate suit, a group of ‘solicitor/lawyer type chaps behind us had blobs dotted all over their expensive attire, nobody to the side or behind Dai (the shaker) was left unscathed. If you’d have walked in a second or so after the incident you’d have thought a gunman had gone mad in there with the amount of red stuff over people. Dai made his way to the toilet to wipe his head, stopped, turned around in the doorway and tried to apologise in his thick Cardiff accent, with his hair matted with sauce, I’m sure no bugger understood him bar us. Oh for mobile phones to have been available in those days. I often wonder how the affected people explained the state of their clothes to their work colleagues later.

I would imagine the original poster has been to, and returned from, Toronto as his post is nearly 3 years old. I hope he had a good time as Toronto is one of the best cities I've visited.

The Falls themselves are great, but the area around it is like Blackpool - full of casinos, tacky shops etc. Recommend going to Niagara on the Lake afterwards - lovely quaint town. A bit touristy but nice enough. Wine tasting is good too if you aren't driving.

A few alternative things to do:

Best to get an open top bus when you get to Niagara as you will see most of the things tourists like. You can also walk across the bridge to the USA side from Niagara to New York State where there is a virtual ghost town but you do get a better view from almost top of the Falls. You have to go through the immigration procedure though which is not always a pleasant experience.

One tip about Toronto is that there is one stop on the open top tourist bus (obviously a different one to Niagara) where retired hippies, who made a packet on the stock exchange and had great jobs, gather together to play live mostly 1960's music. I think that happens on a Saturday but can't be sure but it's a good experience to sit in the cafes opposite.

If you like music, in the summer around the Stock Exchange area where all the high rise buildings are located, live bands play music for the workers on the grass during their lunch breaks.

Toronto is a place where many films are made and again that makes alternative viewing. We saw Silvester Stallone there. He's much shorter than I imagined.

I've been there several times. Very nice city. When are you going? Are there Covid restrictions?

I went and loved it over 2 years ago. It seems someone is being mischievous on here and digging up old posts, suppose its kinda funny, in these miserable times.

That pub there is ok, the outside bit anyway. Perfect for a swift pint after a few hours cycling
