I dont agree with it, but perhaps having gun defences at schools is not that daft, as this is not going away is it, perhaps a huge tax levy on guns to pay for extra security at schools is an answer ?

No one's saying gun control laws would sort America out overnight. If you make it much more difficult to get hold of semi automatics then it is at least going to reduce the chances of a nutter getting hold of one.

No law is obeyed by everyone and you don't expect new laws to have an instant 100% impact. But if you want to make a massive change then you have to start gradually.

I wonder what we'd say if it was a) a country like Saudi Arabia talking about arming teachers or b) the UK saying our teachers should carry knives as a deterrent.

In a) we'd probably say they were barbarians and uncivilised, and in b) we'd be completely appalled.
