I preffered Messi like that with his explosive burst of pace and always going forward. Goes sideways a lot these days and has lost a yard or two.

That's cos he's partially playing Xavi's role now mate. He starts so many moves now whereas when Xavi and Iniesta we there he never needed to do this. From Xavi and Iniesta to Andre Gomes and Paulinho! They have been a one man team this season.

After a slow start to the season his form in 2018 is incredible. Averaging 1.5 goals per game so far in 2018.

I saw a post a week or so ago that showed this season prior to january 1st he'd scored something like 7 with an xG of around 12, and after jan he'd scored 15 with an xG of 10.

Overall scored 22 with an xG of 22.
He was always likely to have a hot streak at some point, as his underlying stats were still really good.
