Cardiff want Crystal Palace star James McArthur

Cardiff want Crystal Palace star James McArthur as they target players with Premier League experience

Have to say I believe this one. Thought this was a player that Neil would go for when I had a look at domestic players who would soon be out of contract.

Yeah would be decent. Imagine wages would be high.

That article says he has two years left on his contract, but I've read elsewhere that his contract is expiring.

If we go for freebies, we can offset high wage demands with signing on fees which amount to the same thing.

Still two years left on his contract

    That clears that up then

Think I'd rather us see what freebies are out there. Though Neil clearly rates McArthur after having brought him to Palace

We supposedly paid £6m for Madine.
We have to be prepared to spend sensible money.

Sounds like a contradiction.. 30 to 40 mill seems sensible? We need a few players to stay up, don’t we? McArthur wouldn’t be a bad signing though.

We paid £2m rising to £5m with promotion and goals if you agree with since62 etc. He's probably cost us at most £4m currently.

Surprised McAthur is 30 because it only seems like yesterday he was a promising youngster at Hamilton Accies who I'd try, and always fail, to sign for City on Football Manager.

I'm not sure how much we'd have to pay for him, but I don't think there's be a lot of change from £10 million if he has two years left on his contract - wouldn't be surprised if there was something to this story though..

I know he’s on loan there, but would much rather Loftus Cheek

Money not well spent regardless of what excuses his apologists will tell you.

Ruled himself out it seems. Good I say. Would have no resale value and too expensive. Bad combination.

Getting players to keep us in the league is far more valuable than any resale value on the players we’ll be going for.

He's a good player for a side that stayed up fairly comfortably. If Palace strengthen, he might be surplus to requirements. If he's good enough to help keep us up for one or two seasons, he'll be worth what we pay for him and more.

Fair arguments from the last three posts. But I think Neil's rhetoric about planning as if we will go down is right. Our bigger money signings should have a longer term value on and off the pitch. He's 31 this year, so is likely to degrade athletically at some point. That said, I can see why folks would see him as a shrewd buy for the short term.

Warnock’s signings at QPR after promotion -

    Wright Phillips
    Anton Ferdinand
    Joey Barton
    Armand Traoré
    Danny Gabbidon
    Jay Bothroyd

His hands were tied but saying he’s going to go for players based on resale seems unlikely.

More likely to sign players who’d do a job in either league.

Although he did try and sign Kyle Naughton and Nathaniel Clyne too so who knows.
