Chinese expansionism, aggressive territorial claims and growing influence in areas of the world that can provide them with raw materials is increasing year by year. Add the overlapping territorial claims to parts of the South China Sea and it is an area that could be quite volatile in future. I have attended numerous government to government meetings between the UK and some of the countries in that area and my position at the table was sometimes determined so that delegates from certain countries would not be adjacent to each other (and neither of them was China).

China bought Cambodia’s support over the East Sea issue with an 800million dollar investment
Cambodia has s short coast line on the Gulf of Thailand so no skin off their nose what China does with its territorial claims and clashing with the neighbours

North Korean disarmament isn't all it seems. With the situation as it was, the US navy had the right to be patrolling the south China sea. That will now come into dispute as China look to expand their trading routes. Trump is filling his boots in the media on this "victory", but privately my suspicion is that US military leaders aren't happy about the folding of the puppet state. Who knows what's really going on behind the scenes? All I know is the public narrative is part of the chess game.

Cambodia needed investment! There were no real roads when I was there as a 19 year old when the twin towers fell. Though plenty of active US landmines still hidden in the jungle. I gather the Chinese have built roads, an airport, hotels and lots of casinos since 2001. I had to buy a meal in restaurant to get the owner to turn on one of Siem Reap's TVs so I could see the news about the world trade centre. Loads of locals gathered round me to watch too and were ecstatic. What a surreal day that was.
