The day we beat Sunderland 4-0 after losing 4 games in a row, Derby won 3 nil away to Birmingham. Rowett signed a new 3 1/2 year contract to fend off interest from Stoke stating he believed Derby were a bigger club and didn't want any distractions from promotion.

Their fans were overjoyed. They knew Rowett would be the man to avoid their usual new year collapse. Derby sat 2nd in the league and there was a confidence they could catch Wolves.
