    Brendan Ingle : 1940 - 2018

I have no interest in boxing at all, but Brendan Ingle was an inspiration to generations of youngsters in the Wincobank area of Sheffield, and someone I relied on as an ally and community champion when I worked for the Council's housing service. Brendan's gym was a place that promoted pride, hard work, self-respect and care for those who needed help and friendship. He 'adopted' a number of local sheltered schemes, and with the lads (and lasses) who trained in his gym he kept the old people safe and comfortable in their homes in lots of small but important ways. A good man, a good neighbour and a sad loss.

The excellent 'The Bomber and Brendan' documentary from 1981 here followed by an update I wasn't aware of from 2006.
