Driving to Cambridge

Anyone do this route from Cardiff on a regular basis, I know there are differing ways of going with the main suggested route M4, M25 etc, but wondered if anyone goes the 'cross country' route and would recommend ?

I've always done the M4, M50, M42, A14 route - it's much quicker I've found

I've always done the M4, M50, M42, A14 route - it's much quicker I've found

I did this route this week it was fine 4 hours out, 4:30 back inc a 15 min stop (from Penarth).

I've always thought they should build a motorway from Swindon to Norwich, going through Oxford, MK and Cambridge so you can go between the west and these places without having to piss about with London or Birmingham traffic

I've used the A46 in the past, especially when there's delays on the M42.

I think the A14 route can be a night mare.

There is another alternative via M4 A417 up around Milton concrete but that is just a long procession of grear changes.
I drive all over the county daily and i find M4 M25 M11 the easiest, if ont for the fact that if you have an active satnav and it tells you about blockages on your route it gives you an alternative.
And of course if there are no problems it top gear no changing good fuel consumption all the way

My brother who lives near there tends to go M5, M42, M40, but it's a toss up between that and M4, m25
