A couple of us proved wrong on here, although the only reason he went down was to get the penalty. The minute contact was never enough to cause him to tumble.
VAR does not solve everything. There will always be flowery / grey areas where gamesmanship or cleverness will distort the 'evidence'.

This thread shows the issue with the use of VAR, different opinions show it wasn't a "clear and obvious error"
It was also too slow for ref to walk over to sideline and having seen Costa's first yesterday and France's last today be checked it seems every big incident will be checked a la NFL rather than just contentious decisions.
It is making goal-line technology less contentious in comparison though. Is there anyway that the ref can review the video on an apple watch or similar? Or just a green light or red light determining whether if they need to stop play. The current method isn't working and made what was otherwise threatening to be a good game a bit dire.
Griezman wasn't in control of the ball when contact was made because of the tackle by the player - fact. In my opinion, it was likely that the goalie had better than 50/50 chance of getting to the ball first and therefore contact was unlikely to have stopped a goal-line opportunity. Therefore the decision wasn't an obvious one and VAR shouldn't have been used to stop the game.
I'm home now and glad to see common sense on this subject.
