I was thinking an early goal for Spain and the game is as good as over, but, instead they started thinking like that themselves and were unable to lift themselves out of their malaise when Russia equalised. I thought Russia got the benefit of a home town decision with that incident when it looked like both Spanish centrebacks were fouled, but tremendous credit to them for the way they went about the penalty shoot out.
It was interesting to hear the commentator mention the way Wales destroyed Russia by running at them, but the difference was that Russia had to win that night - that said, the only time someone in a Spain shirt tried the Welsh approach, they almost scored.
England will be happy to see Spain fall as they were the expected semi final opponent should they get past Colombia then either Switzerland or Sweden in the last 8.
