Visit RWANDA

Makes me sick to my stomach - I know Football is MASSIVE BUSINESS but where do you draw the line?
I saw saw that on the billboard thingys alongside the pitch. Thought it was odd
It’s no Malaysia
So the UK and others send millions of pounds of aid to Rwanda.
Then the goverment of Rwanda ,uses money on sponsorships for rich elite football clubs
Would it be better spent on health , food ,schools , roads rather than feeding the rich.
What will the rich left of North London make of this ?
Anything that makes football look nice and caring - all those different coloured ribbons people wear etc., they jump on it, yet wave any amount of cash in front of their eyes they bite your hand off.
Arsenal must have £100's of millions income from all areas each year, but wouldn't say no to an extra £50k [?] !!
This just shows how our foreign aid money is being wasted. Who in their right minds would want to visit Rwanda anyway?
What if the £30m investment generated £60 million in money from tourism into the country?
I know very little about the country or regime there but presumably it isn't good for anyone for them to be reliant on humanitarian aid, and growing the tourism industry is
Probably a very sensible thing if that is their aim
Not having a go at you pal but you do realise we are talking about RWANDA !!!!

Who in the right mind would want to go and visit RWANDA - as far as I'm concerned it's a total travesty that £30m was accepted by Arsenal FC to wear Visit Rwanda on their sleeve as well as to have that flashing around the Emerites stadium when the country is one of the poorest countries in the world - Absolute disgrace
Let's not kid ourselves - they will NEVER generate that type of money from tourism
UK visitors surge 20%
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/d...itors-arsenal/
"Rwanda’s tourism industry contributes to 12.7 per cent of the country’s GDP, supporting 132,000 jobs."
"“We sell 96 gorilla permits a day, each gorilla permit costs $1,500, that means we make more than $50 million a year,” she said."
Here are some more Rwanda tourism facts
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Rwanda
"Tourism in Rwanda is rapidly increasing.[1] In 2010, 666,000 tourists visited the country. This resulted in tourism revenues of $200 million, an increase of 14% over 2009.[2]."
So much for never generating that amount of money from tourism
It looks like the tourism arm of the Rwandan government can absolutely afford to advertise.
It’s nothing new for Arsenal, although taking money from Rwanda given what’s gone on there is in the extreme. They have had a tie up with Fly Emirates for over 10 years, which is owned the rulers of Dubai, where there is no democracy and there are significant human rights violations particularly for foreign workers which make up a large proportion of the workforce.
Same with Man City and their owners/sponsors.
"Despite effective rape enforcement, however, there is also a complicated issue concerning the way the law limits, much to the detriment of rape victims, what actually constitutes as rape. Under Section 375A of the Penal Code, page 45, rape only happens when a man's penis enters a woman's vagina sans prior consent. The penetration of women via other orifices, and by objects other than the penis, may not be considered as rape, as so was the case in 2011, where a man who had impregnated a 15-year-old girl was released by high court only because he used his finger, prompting public outcry and an ensuing rally."
What country is that?
"Discrimination against the disabled is legal" - what country is that?
Cardiff are also sponsored by "Visit Philippines".
Do we really want to go down this path of morals?

Exactly. For example, "Made in the UK" can be seen on shrapnel that has decimated the Yemen.
Going back to the original point, I doubt if any Dutch or UK Aid has found its way directly into Arsenal's bank account. The industry employs 132,000 people in a poor country, is generating growth, and is making a decision to advertise. No different to the number of corporates like Coca-Cola, Nestle etc who are not exactly clean handed either.
I highlighted the point that it’s nothing new for Arsenal to receive sponsorship from countries where human rights are murky to say the least. You’re right to highlight that for Cardiff in relation to Malaysia and the Phillipenes. And no doubt, there are countless other clubs who receive money in some form from countries who allow similar human rights abuses. It’s generally that these are not in the media spotlight as much as something like the genocide in Rwanda, so don’t cause as much ‘outrage’. Still doesn’t make it right.
It’s on my list of places I’d like to visit in Africa after Rhodesia.
Yeah strange to see the Rwandan genocide being mentioned on here, it was like 25 years ago.
Would anyone in 1970 have criticized having investment from Germany because of the Holocaust?
Duterte is an interesting one in the Philippines. Very hard line, definitely has blood on his hands, comes out with outrageous statements but seems very popular amongst Filipino people I know living over here
I laughed when I saw it on their shirt, feels like something out of a mockumentary style comedy based around marketing at a football club (which I think could be decent if they made one).
